Monty's Creations

Community & Area News

Monty Vincent, who lives with his wife Julie in La Casa de las Olas, has a talent for making beautiful creations out of wood which the locals regard as basura. He collects the wood from the surrounding area and allows it to dry for up to a year. Then he meticulously removes all the dirt and dry rot. The next step involves cleaning and sanding the wood until its natural colors come through. These two pictures show these first two stages of the process. Monty's Wood Stage Two

Although Monty has made many different objects from this material, his favorite creations are canes and lamps. Here he is with many of the unique canes he has made over the past years. Each one has a story and a name.

He also does cane repair, in which case he provides a temporary "loaner" cane from his collection so the customer can still get around. In one case, the customer wanted a coin embedded in the handle of his favorite cane. Since Monty hadn't done this particular type of work, he did this study in coin embedding which ended up becoming a Gin set.
