2 People rescued after bridge collapse in Mexico

The two occupants of a taxi were rescued early Tuesday after a bridge in western Mexico collapsed, authorities said.

The accident cut off the only access route to the Pacific coast resort town of Puerto Vallarta, located in Jalisco state, from the neighboring state of Nayarit.

Several eyewitnesses to the collapse told authorities of the presence of the taxi on the bridge, emergency services personnel in Jalisco told Efe.

The structure partially collapsed about 3 a.m. due to the erosion of its support pillars by the rise of the rain-swollen Ameca River.

The eyewitnesses also reported the presence of another vehicle on the span at the moment of the collapse and authorities are currently trying to either find it or rule out its presence by combing the area with helicopters.

When the IV International Marlin and Tuna Tournament of Riviera Nayarit begins on August 12, it'll offer almost $1.5 million pesos in prizes. The event will take place at Marina Riviera Nayarit at La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, with approximately 60 participating vessels.

Mal tiempo, fuerte marejada y hasta una “culebra de agua”

El choque de sistemas meteorológicos ocasionó mal tiempo el día de ayer en la región, con viento frío, lluvia, cielo nublado a medio nublado, una fuerte marejada y hasta la formación de una de las llamadas “culebras de agua” en la bahía de Banderas.
Desde temprana hora, el frío, la lluvia y la fuerte marejada llamaron la atención de turistas y habitantes locales en el malecón, quienes vieron con asombro cómo las olas se estrellaban en el muro de contención y en algunas partes el mar lo rebasaba para llegar a la calle.
El mayor espectáculo fue ver en aguas de la bahía de Banderas una de las llamadas “culebras de agua”, que presentan la forma de un tornado, pero que es agua del mar que se levanta por las condiciones meteorológicas que confluyen en ese momento.

A Most Incredible Day around Punta del Burro!

The sea spray is still drying on my face as less than an hour ago, I stepped off the boat after one of the most incredible days of my entire life!

Yesterday, December 8, 2009 was the first official day of whale watching in the Banderas Bay. After several days of rain, it dawned a gloriously clear and sunny day. Keith picked me up and we were off by 7:45 am, as excited as two kids on Christmas morning!

Arriving at Los Peines pier, I realized it had been several years since I had been to that particular marina. What changes! Parking, a restaurant, benches - the works! I remember the days of it being a muddy and ugly place but no longer.

Some of our own Burros residents have a very special event planned for Oct. 17-22 of 2009 which benefit Mexico in and around PV. The organization is called PEACE (Protection, Education, Animals, Culture, Environment).

Mindy from Villa Ananda will be holding Yoga classes and much more. Ken from Riviera Ventures is also involved in an advisory role for the PEACE efforts. This is a very worthy and wonderful cause.. if any of you would like to attend please see the classified promotion below. Limited space available. The much needed upgrade to our electrical system is now underway.. throw in some phone lines from Telmex! and new schedule R40 water lines .. We're gonna have Christmas in July, right here in Burros. Hooray... here are a cupla pix taken from the first week of the schedule. Should take 6-8 weeks according to Presidente RonBama.. lets just hope it doesn't rain all that hard before the rainy season gets really cranked up (typically mid july).. check out all the copper hanging out on Bahia Street..that wouldn't last 15 seconds on the side of an L.A freeway... click on image to enlarge.. Every day we have the same beach fisherman doing his thing at the same location." Tweety" is a beautiful smart Egret who has claimed this beach as his own for several years now.. Paco (resident expert) explained that he is a "he" because of the long feathers on the back of his neck and chest. I happened to be sitting on the rocks in low tide when he began his daily ritual. He would jump up when a wave came and move closer to me after each landing. He didn't seem to mind my presence and came within 10 feet .. there are 5 pictures in this story (click read more). Each pic can be zoomed by clicking on the image and then hit view original.. The 70 foot luxury cruiser (in pic 2) can be chartered and is part of the punta mita fleet. chef included.. enjoy the pix

Mexico plans to begin construction of a space port to send satellites in space this year, an official said Monday.

The facility will be located in the southern state of Quintana Roo on the border with Belize, said state planning minister Jose Alberto Alonso Ovando. The location was chosen after extensive studies in part because of its proximity to the Equator, he said in an interview.

Starting tomorrow in the morning go to summer time it is advancing clocks an hour this with the goal of saving more energy.

Since 1996 Mexico has been practised in the change of schedule. The first Sunday in April and the last Sunday in October at 2h00 in the morning is the change of schedule. By 2008 Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, April 6 and ends on Sunday, October 26.

At the time taken between the first Sunday in April and last Sunday in October is called daylight saving time, while the schedule for the remainder of the year is called Winter Schedule. The setting of a time that is done in the clocks to move from one time to another occurs exactly 2h00 in the morning (this time is the time that is left) on Sunday in question. The change in schedule is made at this time to minimize potential adverse effects on society in general the effect of adjusting the clocks. In the United Mexican States changing schedule is done primarily in the Central time zone, one hour after making the change of schedule in the Pacific area, and an hour later is the change of schedule in the Northwest area .
